Hiring a fence company
How to choose a fence company
A fence is a big job on your property, and the parts that matter most go in the ground where you cannot see them. Here is what to check before you hire anyone, and how Central Fence measures up.

Licensed, bonded and insured: what each one means
-
Licensed
Missouri does not license fence contractors statewide, but many cities and counties require a business license or a contractor license to work there. A licensed company is registered, on the books and answerable where it works.
-
Bonded
A bond is a promise backed by a surety company that the contractor will finish the work and pay its suppliers as agreed. Public jobs for cities, counties and schools usually require one.
-
Insured
Liability insurance pays for damage to your home, your yard or your neighbor's property if something goes wrong on the job. Without it, that bill can end up with you. Ask for proof.

Questions to ask every fence company
-
01
Can I see your proof of insurance?
A real company sends it without a fuss.
-
02
Who calls 811 before you dig?
The company should handle the locates. Digging into a buried line is dangerous and expensive.
-
03
How deep do the posts go?
Posts carry the whole fence. Gate and corner posts take the most load and should go deeper and heavier.
-
04
Is taking out my old fence included?
Some quotes leave it out. Ask, so you can compare quotes fairly.
-
05
What exactly is in the quote?
Material, height, length, gates, hardware and cleanup should all be in writing, so you are comparing the same fence.

FAQ
Hiring questions
Is Central Fence licensed, bonded and insured?
Yes. Central Fence LLC is licensed, bonded and insured, and we can work under a bond for public and commercial jobs. Ask and we will send proof of insurance.
Does Missouri require a license to build fences?
Missouri does not license fence contractors at the state level. Many cities and counties require a business license or a contractor license to work there, so ask whether the company holds the one your town requires.
What does bonded mean for a fence company?
A bond is backed by a surety company and promises the contractor will finish the work and pay its suppliers as agreed. Public jobs for cities, counties and schools usually require one.
Why does a fence company need insurance?
Fence work means digging, heavy posts and equipment on your property. Liability insurance covers damage to your home, your yard or your neighbor's property if something goes wrong.
How do I compare fence quotes?
Make sure each quote covers the same fence: the material, height, length, gates, how deep the posts go, removal of the old fence and cleanup. The cheapest quote often leaves one of those out.
